Mosin-Nagant 91/30
Well, I finally broke down and bought a Mosin today at the gun show. Not sure what I am going to do with it other than take up space in my gun safe, but it's in there now. While I was at it I bought 440 rounds in a sealed tin. Rifle came with all the extras(pouches, bayonet, oil can, sling and cleaning kit. The total for the rifle and the ammo came to $175. The rifle was $90.

Welcome coyoteskinner to the forums. I usually make it over your way a couple times of year to waterfowl hunt this time of year...long drive from here but best waterfowl hunting ive found in the state IMO. Tell your friends about this place and come back anytime!
Re: Mosin-Nagant 91/30
Actually, the old Mosin Nagant's are fairly accurate. They have a Minute of Man Accuracy...they're not exactly PRECISION rifles..but they'll do to kill game or 2 legged snakes.
They're also pretty fun to shoot.
I have an M44 carbine. Great rifle. Very loud and lots of fire when you shoot it.
Keep in mind that if you DO clean it up and shoot it, remember to clean it afterwards with hot water and soap or use an ammonia based spray cleaner to neutralize the caustic properties of the rounds you bought..otherwise, they'll eat the barrel out of your rifle.
Also, clean it like this for a couple of days after you shoot it because the salts will sweat out of the barrel.

Have fun shooting!

Hey, Iron Sights, Thanks for the welcome. I agree we need to get the word out about this awesome site.
I'm not much into waterfowl but I bet I know where you are talking about and it happens to be about 5 miles from where I actually live. Would love to hunt some but the wife and I don't have much of a taste for them...

I would say leave it like it is. there are a bunch of them out there...but they'll go up in price eventually.
Heck, I bought an M44 carbine and now I can't find them for less than 300 bucks.
I paid 68 dollars right out of the crate for mine.

oh man..they're CHEEP, fun to shoot and fairly accurate. Plus, they'll blow what ever part you hit right off the target.

The M44 carbine with bayonet is a prime hog gun. .30-06 power and something to fend him off with if he just can't be persuaded to up and die for you on the first shot like a good hog. My buddy killed one at the end of his gun barrel in full charge. Big 350 pounder too. You could have heard my buddy yell for five miles any direction. Adrenaline overdrive. I though he was about 100 yards from me, turned out to be about 400 yards, nearly 1/4 mile. Teach him not to use 87 gr varmint bullets in a .25-06.

Anyone know the cheapest place for ammo for these. Non-corrosive would be better.
I think I am going to use mine to shoot me some back straps.....

Hunting regulations usually stipulate soft point ammo. Prvi Partizan makes some decent non corrosive hunting ammo for eastern block guns I have not checked to see if they have that caliber. I used some of their 7x57 Mauser ammo, good stuff and good brass. Good price too.coyoteskinner wrote:Anyone know the cheapest place for ammo for these. Non-corrosive would be better.
