Charter Arms undercover
Picked up a nice little Charter Arms undercover 38spcl today on the private market for 125.00 Revolver has honest wear on the finish but still locks up tight and no sign of abuse. Im wondering now about +p loads for it. Will it hold up and if so you reckon its necessary?
Re: Charter Arms undercover
If it is pre 2000 then it is probably one of the good ones. I still would be a bit leary about +P loads. Look at the crane in comparison with most other brands. It could loosen up with heavy pounding. A 125gr JHP (My preference being Hornady XTP but any HP bullet you trust) over 5.3 gr Unique (book minimum) is a standard pressure loading at 917fps according to my book. Or opt for the std heavy bullet load and use 158 gr SWC over 4.6gr Unique (book max is 4.7) for 900fpswith the heavier bullet. Still not +P and they are loads I have used myself. Pressure rises faster with Jacket bullets. But lead needs good lube to prevent leading. Lee Liquid Alox Tumble Lube.

By the way, despite the state you live in KY is NOT a good bullet lube.

Man, now it's MY turn to be jealous!
If we keep doin this seesaw thing on the jealousy, we're both going to end up with a LOT of guns Dan.
Right now, I'm looking for a decent (not trash) take down survival rifle.
As it stands, I'm using my colt woodsman. While it's an effective squirrelinator, I want something with a bit longer reach.
I don't intend to engage any large animals..only small game. Survival means just that..survival, not domination.
Anyone have any good ideas? if so, post it up in the rifle forum.
(yes, I know I'm in the wrong section here...)

Re: Charter Arms undercover
That is an excellent price for a mechanically sound CA/UC...pics if you have them please.
The Giorno family .38 caliber duty load is a 158 grain LSWCHP+P...over the years I have shot them on a limited basis from both my CA/UC pistols. There's no need to put a steady diet of these through a lil snub anyway so just use 'em for carry loads and shoot a cylinder full now and then to keep your self satisfied...
There isn't that much difference between a standard and +P using the same bullet to be concerned over. I use to hand-load the standard 158 grain LSWC for practice.
Hopefully you will enjoy this...A New Old or Old New Friend…
